I hate this whole X is better than Y when it comes to computer hardware.

At the end of the day the difference isn't gamebreaking when cards are around the same Market price, it's numbers on a chart, ultimately that X may produce 5fps more, when both cards can probarly run any game comfortably on max settings. Unless theirs a very good reason to have that extra 5fps or tiny little bit more detail (in games theirs really not as most games are played casually anyway) then really why pay over the odds (other than future proofing I suppose) to have something you don't need.

A life, Jimmy. You know what that is? It’s the shit that happens while you’re waiting for moments that never come.

Future proofing is basicly what im doing i usually only upgrade my computers once every 5 years or so, so if i get the best card on the market at the time of buying i wont need to upgrade for a while

the 6870 is able to run most new games in a 7200*1200 resolution so you dont even need the high end to keep yourself future proof for the next 5 years =P, you could just save the extra 150 pounds and in 3 years buy a new gpu for 150 that will make the 580 look like a snail =P
but if u want the highend for the epeen, then its the best choice =P at least for the next 2 weeks :D

It's the 360 and PS3's fault that games aren't changing faster in quality anyway. ;d

heeey i have a ps3. one of the originals at that (bought it the day they were released). Currently my ps3 is gathering dust and acting as a blue ray player when someone watches something. the tv hasn't been turned on for 4 months, and then i missclicked while moving the remote.

true about that, doesnt make sense to me, why use PCs to make games for consoles that have out of date hardware just to make a pc port from console out of it. They should be making the games the best they can look and downscaling them to match console hardware not the other way round its ridiculous

for gaming i'd recommend the i5-760 as there is basically no difference in game performance and games run horribly on the virtual threads, and the i5-760 over clocks better aswell :D. the i7 does have a much bigger epeen though :D. both will last you 5 years for gaming

only down side is that the i5 will bottle neck a dual gpu setup

I'm looking at buying a new gfx card and its taken me about 3 weeks to come to a conclusion. The cards in mind are Nvidia GTX 580 and AMD 6990 or 70 cant remember.

After viewing some benchmarks as with current expectations of the 69xx they'll both have their own strength and weakness's. I've had nvidia now since i upgraded my voodoo 5 5500 back in the early years of 2000 and i'd prefer to stick with them.

So if your in the same boat as me, just stick to the brand you've owned the most.

I'd stick with Nvidia cause ATI have shafted me in the past so. 2 cards, 2 faults. (plus another 2 in laptops that over heated and died running windows, no games).

had well over 10 Nvidia cards, not 1 fault yet *touches wood*
