And I re - re -redecided on the 980ti because a 144hz monitor is cheap enough to get shortly after and the 970 can't put out stable 140+fps in Overwatch (unless you set everything to low).

Basically:
You want pcmasterrace 144fps ? 980ti
You want stable 60fps and pretend it's 1998? Best value 970/390.

LE:I'm spending a shitload of money anyway, might as well bump it 30% and get the full experience

4 gpu generations and upgrade from high range to enthusiast: 2010 6970hd to 2015 980ti

The 980ti from GA is faster than a fury-x at exactly the same price so... yeah
The fury-x is water cooled though but the GA 980ti turns off fans completely in idle so I will never know who is quieter.
I went with the fractal define r5 case because I got a crazy deal on it (much cheaper than the corsair 240) and hopefully it will block the coil whine noise if the video card will have any.
Didn't buy an i7 or a maximus and used the extra cash to get a proper psu, water cooling and a hdd
Can't wait to finish putting it together after I finish some overdue work

I also have my eye set on a 144hz 1080p gsync monitor so I can use the video card properly. But that's in about a month's time

It's assembled, it booted, bios is updated but it's 3am and I've gotten 12 hours sleep in the past 3 nights.
Think I'll install windows tomorrow and start taking it for a spin.

Always fun doing stuff like this, sod doing it at 3am though, good call on the sleep.
